This collection of Welsh Love Spoons was carved by David Roberts of Ystradgynlais/South Wales in the 1970&80s. He died at the ripe old age of 90 in 2000 and his collection was donated to the Brecknock Museum and Art Gallery in Brecon, Wales/U.K. where it can be viewed.
David Roberts was a miner all his life and spent his spare time in his vegetable garden. Once he retired, however, he needed a new occupation. It was then that he discovered 'Love Spoon Carving', like many others in his situation. He also suddenly found himself with many more friends than he ever had had before! His carvings were very popular, if traditional, and he became very proficient at it. He exhibited widely throughout the southern counties of Wales. Some of his best love spoons are shown in the text of the accompanying essay.
