David Western, wood carver and furniture builder, was born in Cardiff in Wales/U.K. He and his family emigrated to Canada when he was a child. David graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in Education. A cabinetmaker by profession, he holds a City and Guilds Certificate in both cabinet making and furniture design from the UK (London College of Furniture). He also has Canadian Inter-provincial Certification in joinery. David has been carving for over 20 years and takes inspiration from carvers as diverse as Tilman Riemenschneider and Bill Reid.
