The walnut wood for this spoon reputedly came from a bar, which is said to have been over 150 years old. The story goes that it began its life on a steam ship, which traveled between Ireland, the UK and the European Continent. When the ship was scrapped, the bar was bought by an Irish pub owner who used it for many years before selling it to a big Canadian hotel. When the bar was installed in the hotel's off licence, the backing panels were removed and discarded. Salvaged by the contractor who kept them for a few years in his scrap lumber bin, they were eventually offered to David Western as possible spoon wood. There was no need to ask him twice, and this is the beautiful result!!"
