Chris Watkins was born and raised near Castell-Nedd/Neath in Wales/U.K. He carved his first love spoon at the age of eleven as part of a school woodwork class. In 2000, after marrying his Ohio-born wife, Chris emigrated to Cincinnati, Ohio/USA where he eventually found employment as a customer support technician for a software development company. In 2002, Chris and his wife moved with their one-year-old twins to northeast Ohio to be nearer their family. Chris took on the role of primary carer to their children and picked-up his interest in lovespoon carving, producing several spoons for his wife. Realizing that not only he, but also other people in the area, had an interest in this age-old Welsh custom he set up a company, along with his recently retired father. They now concentrated on hand carved Welsh love spoons.
Both still consider themselves beginners in the field of woodcarving but, through specializing in Welsh love spoons, they produce quality, creative, and original work. They are self-taught carvers, using books and experience to learn and improve, as well as exchanging their knowledge with others involved in this art form.
